Although this seems to be written specifically for children who know someone with Alzheimer's, it is a touching, beautifully illustrated story of shared experiences between a young girl and her grandfather. Callie's grandfather moves in with her family and remains active. Callie enjoys time with him especially when he is playing the piano and singing. Eventually it is "time for Grandpa to live in a place with doctors and nurses." A piano at this (unidentified) "place" enables Callie and Grandpa to continue to make music together, improvising lyrics when Grandpa forgets them. With no specific details about the disease, but some references to odd behavior, this is more of a gentle portrait of one family's coping with an aging adult than a story explicitly about Alzheimer's. It could be used to gently ease a child into a discussion about the disease or erratic behavior in an older adult. Other works of this ilk include Still My Grandma by Veronique Van den Abeele (2007).
