Kevin Spencer finds himself running against dreamy classmate Cash Devine for student-body president in a special weeklong election. His goal: win the election and get the girlâthe beautiful Tina Zabinski. Kevin has some really good ideas for his campaign, and his motives are mostly pure. Bernstein skillfully reads the part of an eighth-grader who walks the line between sincerity and superficiality. Other characters include the edgy, gravelly voiced Aunt Buzz, German-accented Milania, and four-year-old Marky. Bernstein seamlessly changes voices and paces the text with natural pauses and expression. In the beginning and ending of each disc, patriotic marching music sets the tone for Paulsen's civic-minded story. The other Kevin Spencer books (Liar, Liar, 2011; Flat Broke, 2011; and Crush, 2012)are also available from Brilliance Audio, but are narrated by another actor. Grades 5-8.
