Content descriptions

Summary, etc.: "When Marshfield Manor hosts a charity event, Grace Wheaton, the museum's curator and manager, is happy to lend a helping hand--until a killer makes an unwanted donation. With the town clock in desperate need of repair, local lawyer Joyce Swedburg and her ex-husband, Dr. Leland Keay, are trying to put aside their differences to organize a benefit at Marshfield Manor to raise money for restoration of the beautiful timepiece. While Grace appreciates the opportunity to support such a good cause, the tension between the unhappy exes is giving her the urge to put both of the organizers in time-out. But after Leland collapses onstage, poisoned during the festivities, Grace suspects there was more going on behind the scenes. Now, she's in a race to catch a ticked-off murderer, and, if she's going to prevent anyone else from getting hurt, every second will count"--Back cover.

Grace Wheaton, manager of Marshfield Manor, is helping run a fundraiser at the manor to refurbish the town clock when co-organizer Leland Keay dies on the stage. Was the death an accident, somehow connected to another incident at the manor involving a detective who has had a heart attack, or was it murder? Naturally, Grace starts asking questions. The plot thickens when hidden tunnels are discovered connecting the manor with a nearby painted-lady mansion under renovation. Secret passageways are always an appealing plot element in cozies, and Hyzy makes the most of the device, while she also keeps the series fresh with further exploration into Grace's evolving personal life. This cleverly constructed mystery will appeal to fans of Kathleen Ernst's work, which also makes effective use of local history. Copyright 2014 Booklist Reviews.
