Summary, etc.: "From a leading internal medicine doctor on the f⁔ront lines of cardiac research, comes a heart disease program designed exclusively for a woman's body, targeting the number one killer of women"-- Provided by publisher.
"Heart disease remains the number one killer of women, with one in four receiving a diagnosis in her lifetime. And the problem is only getting worse. Mark Menolascino, MD, has been on the front lines of cardiac research for most of his life, running an acclaimed clinic where he takes a holistic approach to reversing disease. In [this book], Dr. Menolascino reveals the many ways our hearts are the pathway to overall health. While obesity, cholesterol, blood pressure, stress, and poor diet are classic risk factors for heart disease, symptoms manifest differently in women's bodies and can go misdiagnosed for years. These include depresssion, anxiety and panic attacks, poor sleep, and widespread pain, and can be masked during pregnancy, postpregnancy, and menopause only to appear with great force later in life. Featuring the latest research on gut, brain, and hormone health and including answers to the most pressing questions, Heart Solution for Women finally gives us the tools to succeed, feel great in our bodies, and add years to our lives."--Dust jacket.

  • Booklist Reviews : Booklist Reviews 2019 February #2
The essence of holistic, integrative, or functional medicine is to treat and heal the whole body. That's crucial when it comes to heart disease, the number-one killer of women, argues Menolascino, medical director of the Meno Clinic Center for Functional Medicine in Wyoming. Rather than just practice what he calls "pill-for-the-ill medicine," physicians need to evaluate each individual. Doctors must become "purveyors of health" rather than "purveyors of drugs," he says. Just treating symptoms can be a recipe for disaster. One woman almost had her gallbladder removed for abdominal pain when she was actually experiencing a heart attack. Menolascino asks patients to take charge of their heart health by following his seven steps, which include sleeping enough, drinking clean water, having a daily bowel movement, controlling emotions, breathing fresh air, and eating proper foods. By contrast, he explains, drugs and surgeries are not very effective at healing chronic issues, including heart disease. With a little cheerleading from Menolascino, women can feel empowered to take their health into their own hands. Copyright 2019 Booklist Reviews.
