Sisters Serina and Nomi are not who they once were. Serina, raised to be demure and submissive, has become a warrior while in exile on an island prison. Meanwhile, Nomi has placed her trust in the wrong man, one who viciously overthrew his father and brother and betrayed Nomi in the process. Now Nomi and Malachi, the deposed ruler of Viridia, are headed toward Mount Ruin, where Serina is held, unaware that she's at the head of a rebellion. In this follow-up to Grace and Fury (2018), both sisters once again find themselves in situations they never expected, but this time they are determined to take destiny into their own hands. Banghart threads Viridia's lore and history in her narrative as she brings Serina and Nomi's stories to their fierce, sometimes violent conclusions. The ending perhaps wraps up a bit neatly, but with challenges in the world today being what they are, a little hope isn't such a bad thing. Grades 7-10. Copyright 2019 Booklist Reviews.

Author Notes

Tracy Banghart grew up in rural Maryland and spent her summers on a remote island in northern Ontario. All that isolation and lovely scenery gave her the time to read voraciously and the inspiration to write her own stories. Always a bit of a nomad, Tracy now travels the world Army-wife style with her husband, son, and several mischievous fur babies. She wrote Grace and Fury while living in Hawaii.
