Summary, etc.:
"Daisy is a girl coming of age in L.A. in the late sixties, sneaking into clubs on the Sunset Strip, sleeping with rock stars, and dreaming of singing at the Whisky a Go-Go. The sex and drugs are thrilling, but it's the rock and roll she loves most. By the time she's twenty, her voice is getting noticed, and she has the kind of heedless beauty that makes people do crazy things. Another band getting noticed is The Six, led by the brooding Billy Dunne. On the eve of their first tour, his girlfriend Camila finds out she's pregnant, and with the pressure of impending fatherhood and fame, Billy goes a little wild on the road. Daisy and Billy cross paths when a producer realizes the key to supercharged success is to put the two together. What happens next will become the stuff of legend. The making of that legend is chronicled in this riveting and unforgettable novel, written as an oral history of one of the biggest bands of the seventies. Taylor Jenkins Reid is a talented writer who takes her work to a new level with Daisy Jones & The Six, brilliantly capturing a place and time in an utterly distinctive voice"-- Provided by publisher.
Reviews

  • Booklist Reviews : Booklist Reviews - Audio And Video Online Reviews 1991-2018
*Starred Review* Only in the 1970s could a lead vocalist in head-to-toe denim be considered a rock-and-roll sex symbol. But there are a lot of things about Billy Dunne's success that are unexpected—like his sobriety and his commitment to his family. A little more predictable is the impact that wild-child Daisy Jones has on Billy and the other five members of "The Six" when she joins the band on their second album. The "Behind the Music"-style interviews that make up this tribute to a fictitious band lend themselves perfectly to a full-cast recording—each narrator telling his or her piece of the story in his or her own voice. Jennifer Beals is captivating as the raspy Daisy Jones, older and wiser—but refreshingly not apologetic. Pablo Schreiber gives a heartfelt performance as conflicted front-man Billy Dunne. And Judy Greer gives a little bounce to the narrative by reinforcing keyboardist Karen's light and laid back POV. Even readers who grabbed a print copy of this book when it was picked for Reese Witherspoon's Book Club will want to listen to this innovative interpretation. As a bonus, the last track on the audiobook is an instrumental version of the group's breakout hit, "Honeycomb." Copyright 2019 Booklist Reviews.
