Read by Almarie Guerra.
Sloane, Ardie, Grace, and Rosalita have worked at Truviv, Inc. for years. The sudden death of Truviv's CEO means their boss, Ames, will likely take over the entire company. Each of the women has a different relationship with Ames, who has always been surrounded by whispers about how he treats women. Those whispers have been ignored, swept under the rug, hidden away by those in charge. However, the world has changed, and the women are watching this promotion differently. This time, when they find out Ames is making an inappropriate move on a colleague, they aren't willing to let it go. This time, they've decided enough is enough. Sloane and her colleagues' decision to take a stand sets in motion a catastrophic shift in the office. Lies will be uncovered. Secrets will be exposed. And not everyone will survive.

At a Dallas law firm, three female lawyers who have been sexually harassed by Ames Garrett, the boss in line to be CEO, decide to fight back. One adds his name to the anonymous BAD (Beware of Asshole Dallas Men) spreadsheet that is circulating as a warning to new hires, and the three sue the company for sexual abuse. When Garrett appears to have died by suicide, the company countersues, blaming the women and the BAD list as responsible. Soon the firm is a mass of infighting and subterfuge. The story is told from a variety of viewpoints as characters testify to investigators, and reader Guerra does a fine job defining characters. Native Texans have appropriate drawls; new hire Katherine from Boston has touches of the East Coast vowels. Guerra slips in and out of Spanish when voicing the Hispanic characters who are woven within the plot. As background unfolds and the plot ties up, listeners will be drawn into this timely story that blends mystery with contemporary feminism. Give this to fans of Liane Moriarty's Big Little Lies (2014). Copyright 2019 Booklist Reviews.
