Nick Heller, Special Forces intelligence expert turned Boston P.I., is devastated when a close friend and military buddy dies of an opioid overdose. His frustration pushes him to take on a client, a daughter of a pharmaceutical giant who has made a fortune on addictive drugs. The daughter claims her father has buried an early clinical test showing that the drugs were addictive, and she's determined to find the results and stop the company's production. Heller goes undercover to search for the secret files, beginning at the hidden office of the wealthy industrialist and eventually discovering to a complex cover up. Graham's reading is low-key but engaging. He gives Heller a frank, level sound that fits well with the character. Graham is especially deft at handling women's voices, making them sound believable without being forced. The fun here lies in the elaborate, carefully detailed missions and Heller's partner's technical back up. Series fans will enjoy Heller's latest adventure. Copyright 2020 Booklist Reviews.
