"Fresh off their first investigation. Kazu and her friends are hungry for their next case, which comes when a vandal begins targeting local comic book stares with anti-comic graffiti. Kazu's BFF, March, is especially desperate to unmask the villain before his beloved shop, the Super Pickle, gets hit. But when March takes over, the gang starts butting heads. It doesn't help that Kazu is distracted by another mystery at home: Her mom is bedridden and her grandmother has come from Japan to help out, but no one will tell Kazu what's going on. Juggling two investigations is not easy. When Kazu and the gang trace the vandel's secret identity to one of the most popular superhero characters in the nation, they realize the vandal's revenge plot is way more explosive than they thought. But can they put aside their differences in time to catch this criminal--or will both of Kazu's cases fall apart?"--Jacket flap.

Kazu and her detective crew are ready to take on a new mystery, this time involving a graffiti vandal striking local comics shops, who Kazu's friend fears might target his uncle's store. As Kazu and her crew begin gathering clues, her baa-chan arrives from Japan to help around the house while Kazu's mom recoversâfrom something. Neither Baa-chan nor Kazu's dad will tell her what is wrong with her mom, leaving Kazu with another mystery on her hands. As the team gets closer to finding the culprit, Kazu and her friends all deal with their own personal struggles away from and within the group. Refreshingly, the kids grow together and work through their difficulties in a realistic way. With the same fast-paced action and clever mystery solving of the first book (Kazu Jones and the Denver Dognappers, 2019), this sequel will continue to excite readers with action, adventure, and humor, here colored by comic book culture. A satisfying second installment in a fantastically fun series. Grades 4-6. Copyright 2020 Booklist Reviews.
