Rosanna, Darcy, and Sadie meet as roommates in New York City the summer before college starts. Each has her own reasons for being in the city ahead of the first day of school. Sadie is a lifelong New Yorker who is finally on her own, a few blocks from home but a world away. Rosanna has a job working at a summer camp for kids, in hopes of saving some money. And Darcy is in for as much fun and adventure as she can get. But as the girls meet men (not boys, they decide, but men), get more involved in their own pursuits, and grow as friends, they find that their summer of love and freedom isn't free of its own drama and tough decisions. This volume sets the scene for more adventures of this likable trio, which will hopefully include more insight into the secrets and struggles of their pasts that are largely just hinted at here. Hand this to teens who yearn to be carefree, young urbanites for vicarious pleasure reading. Copyright 2014 Booklist Reviews.
