Reviews

  • Booklist Reviews : Booklist Reviews 2018 January #1
*Starred Review* Following the events of Marianna's Knight (2017), Henry Fountain learns self-reliance and Apache ways from rough-and-ready Rufas and his Apache friend Yellow Boy. After the death of Rufas, Henry and Yellow Boy make their way to the hideout of Rojo, an Apache leader in Old Mexico, where the two find themselves in the middle of the political turmoil there. Life is cheap and death, violence, and slavery common. Equally common is the culture of vengeance for real or perceived wrongs. Comacho is a particularly cruel slave owner and commander of his own well-guarded hacienda. When the beautiful Sac, whom Henry had rescued from rival Apaches, falls victim to the brutality of Comacho, Yellow Boy and Henry must rescue her. A wide assortment of characters, both good and not so good, make it difficult to know whom to trust and whom to count as an enemy. Knight's Odyssey is not a fast read, but with spellbinding adventure, narrow escapes, and a heartwarming ending, it is worth it. Highly recommended. Copyright 2018 Booklist Reviews.
