Content descriptions

Summary, etc.:
"While the savage Naor clans prepare to march on the heart of the Five Realms, Rylin Corimel infiltrates the highest of the enemy ranks to learn their secrets and free hundreds of doomed prisoners. His ailing mentor Varama leads the Altenerai corps in a series of strikes to cripple the Naor. Kyrkenall, Elenai, and the kobalin Ortok ride for the storm-wracked shifting lands to rekindle the alliance with the winged lizards known as ko'aye, the only possible counter to the terrible Naor dragons. Meanwhile, the queen is delving further and deeper into the magic of the mysterious hearthstones, in a frantic attempt to save the realms that just might doom them all."-- Adapted from publisher.

Alantris has fallen, but a few survivors remain behind led by Varama, hidden in secret tunnels to harass the occupying Naor. Rylin manages, in the heat of the moment, to orchestrate a truly epic rescue; Kyrkenall, Elenai, and a kobalin called Ortok ride through the shifting lands in hopes that they can rekindle the alliance with the dragon-like ko'aye. Varama's guerilla resistance, and the spectacular subterfuge of Rylin, are entertaining enough on their own; add in the search for allies and the strange things hidden by the shifting lands, and the web of the tale becomes quite epic. The Queen, meanwhile, in the walled city of Darassus, continues her ill-advised plans. The conclusion promises a wild ride in the final volume of the Ring-Sworn trilogy (beginning with For the Killing of Kings, 2018). This straightforward political fantasy is bolstered by the strong character relationships and an interesting world to explore, though background characters and races are often no more than one-note set dressing.
