"In the latest riveting thriller from #1 New York Times bestselling author Kelley Armstrong, the paranoia increases - along with the stakes - as the town of Rockton tries to solve the latest mystery at their door. Detective Casey Duncan has noticed fewer and fewer residents coming in to the hidden town of Rockton, and no extensions being granted. Her boyfriend, Sheriff Eric Dalton, presumes it's the natural flux of things, but Casey's not so sure. It seems like something bigger is happening in the small town they call home. When an injured hiker stumbles from the woods, someone who seems to have come to the Yukon for a wilderness vacation but instead is now fighting for her life, it's all hands on deck. What - or who - attacked this woman, and why? With the woman unconscious, and no leads, Casey and Eric don't know where the threat is coming from. Plus, the residents of their deeply secretive town are uneasy with this stranger in their midst. Everyone in Rockton wants this mystery solved - and fast"-- Provided by publisher.

Armstrong's sixth Rockton novel is deeply mysterious and chillingly suspenseful. Detective Casey Duncan has become aware that the influx of people to the hidden town of Rocktonâa refuge for people who want to leave their previous lives behindâhas slowed markedly. The tide of people coming into the Yukon town always ebbs and flows, and while Sheriff Eric Dalton isn't too worried, Casey can't shake the idea that something is wrong. Then, after an injured woman appears out of nowhere and promptly falls unconscious, the whole town wants to know who she is, how she got here, and (most pressing of all) whether someone who lives in Rockton is responsible for her injuries. Rockton continues to be a rich source of story material; even after half a dozen books, there is clearly much more to be revealed about this place and the people who live here. As long as Armstrong wants to write Rockton novels, her fans will want to read them. Copyright 2021 Booklist Reviews.
