Whether intended for a fandom convention, a Halloween party, or Disneybounding (the non-costume type of costumes adults are limited to at the theme parks), quick and thematic outfits don't have to be extravagant or expensive to evoke the feel of classic characters. Here, Everdeen compiles a wealth of ideas for dressing like favorite Disney, Harry Potter, Pixar, Star Wars, DC, Marvel, and cartoon characters. Instead of recreating the costumes down to specific details like strict cosplay would, these ideas are based in color schemes and signature pieces. For example, Mary Poppins must have an umbrella, white-clad Princess Leia needs her buns, and carrying a dinglehopper (aka a fork) elevates a teal skirt and purple top into an Ariel outfit from The Little Mermaid. Full-color photographs offer plenty of ideas, and while the costumes tend toward the feminine, plenty of male characters and masculine dressing options are also included. An approachable and fun addition. Copyright 2021 Booklist Reviews.
