  • Booklist Reviews : Booklist Reviews 2023 January #1
In Crutcher's sophomore release (following The Orphan Witch, 2021), a time-traveling witch from 1922 with missing memories teams up with her sister's descendants to save a remote Irish isle. Evermore's present day inhabitants are cursed to never leave the isle and live besieged by monsters called forth from a magical lough by dark witches who unsealed its power on the same night Brigid Heron vanished a hundred years ago. Locked in Brigid's memory is the knowledge of her daughter, Dove, the deal she made with the dangerously handsome son of a god in order to conceive her, and the desperate measures she took to save Dove's life that catapulted her away from her own time and resulted in Evermore's current plight. The novel's bright spot is the relationship between Brigid and her sister's descendants, Ophelia and Finola, whose banter and charmingly aggressive support of Brigid and one another bolster a muddled plot and vaguely sketched antagonists. Fans of fantasy and relationship fiction blends à la Sarah Addison Allen or Nora Roberts may enjoy this one. Copyright 2023 Booklist Reviews.
