Content descriptions

Summary, etc.:
One night, Molly Clarke walked away from her life. She doesn't want to be found. Or at least, that's the story. The car abandoned miles from home. The note found at a nearby hotel. The shattered family that couldn't be put back together. They called it a 'walk away.' It happens all the time. Women disappear, desperate to leave their lives behind and start over. But is that what really happened to Molly Clarke?

Walker's latest twisty thriller (after The Night Before, 2019) chronicles a woman's abduction left uninvestigated under the assumption she has done a "walk-away" from a shattered life. On the way home from driving into the countryside to watch her son play football, Molly Clarke runs out of gas and makes the mistake of accepting a ride from a man in a pickup truck. When she is reported missing by her family and the police find a note asking them to just let her go, they do, believing her desperate to escape the never-ending nightmare she has lived since her youngest child died. No one imagines her fate, held captive by a truly warped man in need of companionship for the girl he also holds prisoner. Although the narrative moves along at a steady clip, the reader must endure the 18 days of Molly's torment along with her. For thriller fans willing to ignore the occasional moments of improbability.
