Evolving Vegan, a clever cookbook and travelogue by Canadian-Egyptian actor Massoud, is a celebration of the diversity of vegan food. Many of the recipes were sourced directly from renowned vegan restaurants such as Bodhi Bowl in Los Angeles and Little Choc Apothecary in Brooklyn. The book is dedicated to Massoud's mother, whom he credits as having sparked his passion for "food, cooking, and the entertainment of others." Perfect for those on a journey to a more plant-based diet (or for those looking to enhance their repertoire of recipes), this includes a variety of dishes from many cultures, including Massoud's own. The cookbook is divided into sections that include breakfast, appetizers, and desserts. The names of these recipes alone are enough to whet readers' appetites, from "hashtastic" potato hash with cashew cheese to a no-bake maple pecan pie. There are also interesting City Spotlights throughout the book, which bring attention to the plant-based scenes in cities like Portland and Toronto. For armchair travelers, foodies, and home cooks alike. Copyright 2020 Booklist Reviews.
